Windows Phone App Store hits 50,000 apps

They try so hard, it almost makes you want to buy one. Almost.

Windows Phone 7 never took off in Australia despite Microsoft’s best efforts. Remember the Old Spice Guy from last year? But things are slightly rosier for the OS in other parts of the world – the app store hit the 50K app mark in under 14 months. Apple took 12 months, Android 19 months, Symbian 26 months and Blackberry 27 months to hit the same number of apps placing Windows as the second fastest growing app store in this race.

Back home there aren’t many Windows Phone devices to be seen. Only the gorgeous N9 from Nokia found some love, but hardly any of the WP7 devices we saw at launch are still available on plans.

One of the main reasons people have stayed away from windows phones, even after the Mango update fixed most of the initial teething issues, is the lack of apps. With the app store showing signs of life will WP7 see a comeback in 2012?
